I needed to get a B or higher in the introduction to creative writing class before I could take the fiction workshop. I got a C in the intro class, and even though I signed up for the fiction class, it’s being taken off my schedule. This means a few things:

I'd speak with your professor in person or with an academic advisor, if you have one. If he doesn't know you want to major in it it might be a good idea to let him know now and ask him what you can do. It's true that you can retake the class or switch your major but I'd look at all of your options first.

i just asked. he said i shouldn't plan on majoring in writing.
i saw phantom of the opera last night, so right now i'm thinking of either musical theatre composition and/or general studio art.

I'll go with a quote from Little Miss Sunshine: "Do what you love and fuck the rest." If you love writing this isn't going to permanently stop you from writing anything, ever. Just do what you love. If it takes some time to figure out what that is, that's fine.

Hey, you can write novels no matter what you major in! Sorry about your C. I know how it feels to have grades change your schedule. About changing your major - You shouldn't let this stop you from majoring in writing unless you strongly feel you want to go for something else. Look at me - I changed my major FOUR times before finally deciding on what I wanted to do. It wouldn't hurt to try and talk to someone too. Best of luck in everything!
