Loved this one. I imagine that this is how most of Jeff and Annie's fights go down, though not so much in public. I really like that Annie goes toe to toe with Jeff here, and that he's immediately contrite after Colby voices his approval. I like how you resolved this in general, as it's always likely to be an issue, even though plenty of people aren't going to care.

I thought you did great with Troy and Abed here. Their voices felt real to me.

Homo-tron! That's brilliant! LOL

Well done as usual.

Thank you! The first two chapters were both men who knew Annie best before rehab, when circumstances were very, very different and so were the people she was surrounded by. Colby is one of the people who sort of marks the transition between the Annie who's looked down on and judged and made fun of and the Annie who chooses to spend time with people who accept and like her for who she is, which she basically admitted was a major reason for her first relationship post-rehab. It was a little easier for Andrew to accept because he's had to shift his views regarding his own sexuality and attractions (as opposed to Jordan who leads a rather structured life and holds himself responsible for molding a new generation), so I figured someone who's had similar experiences and setbacks to Annie's, like Colby, would understand a lot more readily.

Also, you have no idea how much brainstorming for homophobic super-villain names I had to do before I settled on Homo-tron.

Love it! You did a great job writing Troy and Abed. I absolutely love the way you write Annie, sometimes in other fics she's written one-dimensionally, but your Annie is so real. Can't wait for the next!

Thank you so much. Honestly, my one key when writing Annie is the simplicity of her desires and how hard she's willing to work to try to achieve them. As long as I keep that in mind, she pretty much writes herself, thanks to the grade-A canon material we're given by the writers and Alison.

Just commenting to say that this fic is now canon in my head. Colby needs to exist, the comic book shop needs to exist, and that makeout scene needs to exist.

Also, you should send this fic to the numerous people who seem to think Annie is one of the more inconsistent and underwritten characters on the show. I happen to agree with you 100%, by the way.

Thank you so much! It's been a really long time since I updated this fic before yesterday, so I was re-reading some of the chapters after I did, and I actually think Colby is one of the best things I've ever created.

Thanks! At this point in my version of events, Jeff is forty, quickly rounding the corner to forty-one (until corrected, I choose to stick with Jeff actually being 19 when he auditioned for The Real World so that makes him thirteen years older than Annie) and while he's probably gotten used to the attention from strangers and learned not to care, Annie tends to inspire such a protective streak in others (which Jeff clearly understands) that being hit with judgment by three guys Annie knew before ever meeting Jeff in one week might finally set him and his insecurities off.

I just happened to notice this comment. I agree with your opinion that Jeff really was 19 when he auditioned for the Real World. In my opinion, 12 or 13 years is not THAT creepy (a little, but not that much). I really like your explanation of Jeff's reactions in this chapter. You clearly have a real grasp of the characters, their motivations, and what they would do in a given situation. You're like Abed!

Thank you! And I'll admit it. I'm 22, and if the right guy happened to be 34 or 35, I'd still go for it. Especially if he looked like Joel. Mmm, Joel...

See? He turned 40 today and I'm cyber-drooling over him!

I'm glad Colby's okay. He's so sweet. I like the Troy and Abed being included as well. Jeff and Annie fighting are adorable

Thought you'd be happy to see how well Colby turned out. Thanks so much for reading, and for always making a point of commenting too.

Yay! This chapter made me exceedingly happy. I don't think you need to worry about your characterizations of Troy and Abed. You nailed it. Perfect.

Thank you! I think this chapter is actually possibly my favorite. I love Colby -- yes, this completely fake character I concocted for one chapter of a fanfiction -- with my whole heart and soul, and I tried to make it fun while starting to tie the previous chapters together. I'm pretty proud of it, so I'm glad it made you happy too!
