Vaughn! I feel bad for him in this story. Actually, I feel bad for him on the show. He seemed to genuinely care about Annie, though it was completely unrealistic of him to expect her to move to Delaware with him.

Speaking of, I really liked how you handled Annie's decision to go here. It makes sense that it would have to be a last minute decision, and one motivated by her feelings for Jeff. Too much time and she would've backed out sooner. As much as I believe she truly cared for Vaughn, it was never enough to uproot herself like that so early in their relationship.

And I loved how Annie told Jeff because she knew he wouldn't convince her to stay, even though she clearly wished that he would. But that still didn't stop her from realizing her mistake before it was too late.

Looking forward to part B!

I actually agree with you about all your points except for Annie's decision being motivated by her feelings for Jeff (eep! am I committing J/A shipper blasphemy?). What makes sense to me is that Annie's decision to go had very little to do with her feelings for Vaughn and everything to do with Annie herself. And a really huge catalyst for the changes Annie is going through is the study group, and I'd say Jeff and Britta (and maybe Troy, but not as much until S2) are the members that have been pushing Annie out of her comfort zone and helping her to learn about herself and grow the most, which was what led me to have her witness that moment ( ... )

Ahahaha. No, I don't think you've committed J/A shipper blasphemy. I should have read what I wrote before commenting, because I wasn't thinking exclusively romantic feelings. I agree that Annie's romantic attentions were focused elsewhere during S1, though I do think there was something there under the surface, otherwise I don't believe she would've kissed Jeff at all upon returning. It didn't fully develop until after he kissed her, but I don't think it was a sudden thing ( ... )

Makes total sense. And we're definitely on the same page, which is not at all surprising. (I watched PTR while I was writing this chapter to help me along -- and I watched the commentary -- and I think you're well on base.)

Maybe when you were talking about the "bond" you meant the way that the two just seem to understand each other really well? It's strange, because they're opposites in so many ways, but those two just GET each other. I wrote like a whole essay about it in one of my reviews for It's Always Open Season on Princesses, I think, haha.

If you still don't love me America I understand why

This was so great. I love seeing PTR from the other side and the subtlty that was involved in Annie making the decision to go. I can't wait for the next part of this!

YAY I picked up the refrence to Ode to Optophobia without even reading your a/n.

I really like the way you handled Vaughn. I, like other comments above, did feel sorry for him at the end of the season (this was midway through the break after I stopped hyperventilating about the kiss). Him and Annie did connect and had a nice little relationshp, i.e Annie's Song.

I also feel the same way about Jeff and Slater but I don't think other people agree with this.

Anyway, Vaughn would have been upset with her staying so I'm so glad you decided to write that part. It was also a nice experience to see Jeff in a part a, felt so weird and exciting at the same time.

I actually get what you mean about Jeff and Slater. She's kind of awful for a lot of her screen time, but if you watch the extended producer's cut of Communication Studies on the DVD, you get to see a little more of them being a couple when she's not focused on talking shit about Britta and pretending she's not threatened by her all the time, and it's actually kind of -- dare I say it -- nice.

Thanks for reading!

Thank you! Of course since we only have 22 minutes and a LOT happens in PTR, we only got to see quick excerpts of the Most Dramatic Moments at that party (except for Shirley's keg stand -- WHY DID WE NOT SEE SHIRLEY'S KEG STAND?), but I've always thought that pretty much the entire party would have been something we wanted to see. I mean, when DID Vaughn ask Annie to go with him? Who was the first to break and escape that awkward Jeff/Britta/Slater conversation? And for the love of god, how did Shirley get home that night? I may have to visit this party again in another fic.
