Who needs Fanservice? His eyes were glued on them the entire time, trying to figure them out and it was all he seemed to be thinking about at the moment. He worried that he was obsessed, but something about those two was a little off no matter how ordinarily enough they seemed.
To anyone else, Mao looked like his usual self, but he knew Mao, and something was up.
With Yuuya, well he wouldn’t deny the fact that he was enjoying the calm around him even with the drummer in the same room, but the fact that Mao was acting strange AND Yuuya being quiet for a change became a concern.
At first, he had told himself that it was mere coincidence, that they were both probably having a bad week at the same time. But then Mao would usually talk to him about anything, and Yuuya…well, he couldn’t ever imagine anything bothering the idiot and that he’d still come to work and be his usually loud self as always, no matter what.
But the most important point that told him that this was no coincidence and that it might indeed involve each other was that the two who were almost always backing each other up with their silly tactics, seemed a little distant as of late.
It was kind of…disappointing.
For example, when they were filming the comment to their new release, they sat far apart from each other, and for once, the drummer didn’t make a fool out of himself, and no props were used in any odd ways. For once, they had filmed a normal release comment!
And yet he still found it a bit…strange.
And then when they went out to drinks the other night, Mao didn’t go saying something about speaking to the manager about their upcoming tour and Yuuya, the light beer drinker, switched to whatever Aki was having that night, and Aki ended up carrying him home for a change from being so smashed.
That was when Aki made up his mind and decided to look into this matter himself. Because when he questioned Shinji about it, the guitarist was totally clueless, so no help there.
But it really made him wonder if they’d gotten into some sort of fight, because the sight of them like this was rather sad, regardless of all the riots they used to cook up together before.
All the shared laughs…the secret glances and the foot wars under the table during their most important meetings, to end up like this…? they may not know it, but what they have is special indeed.
Or had. He hoped that wasn’t the case.
They were more than just partners…
More than any friends could ever be…
More than anything he could ever have with Mao when he knew the vocalist better and longer than any of them ever did.
And he admits it to himself that he could be a bit jealous at times, but seeing his friend smile and laugh for no reason at all makes him happy, and if the idiot drummer can do that to him, then it’s enough.
But he hoped that it all hasn’t come to some sort of end.
Not only for their sake, but for the sake of the band’s future.
Watching them now, they worked almost mechanically, keeping all conversations at one word sentences and any physical contact was either rushed or made awkward. And one time, and to this he thought he noticed a hint of longing in Mao’s eyes, a glance was shared-to which Yuuya smiled just briefly and turned away rather nervously.
And then a thought hit Aki like a ton of bricks, and felt his insides gushing like a girl in on some juicy gossip. He bit his lip to keep from smiling maniacally and waited for a chance to get Yuuya alone, because under pressure, Yuuya would crack and spill everything.
At the very least… everything he needed to help them
out.
When he did, he couldn’t have picked a worse time to be asking the drummer the million dollar question, because poor Yuuya was drinking coffee.
“You slept with him, didn’t you?”
And that coffee sprayed all over the place as Yuuya turned back in a flash nearly choking. “E-excuse me?”
Aki inclined his head towards the vocalist on the other side of the wall in the next room. “Mao…you slept with him…” and he smiled oh so slyly.
But Yuuya was dumbfounded and speechless as he blinked back at Aki. “The hell gives you that idea?”
Aki crossed his arms and leaned against the door frame. “Not fair, I asked you a question first, Yuuya-kun...”
Yuuya paused for a moment, trying to mentally grasp the situation here. “No!”
“Oh really? is that why you’re avoiding him?”
“Aki, I’m not avoiding Mao...”
Aki gave him a piercing look. “Oh. Really?”
Yuuya glanced back at him once in his attempt to clean up the mess he made. He was getting nervous under that gaze that was boring into his back, but Aki kept at his game until the drummer threw down the paper towel and muttered out of frustration: “It was just a kiss...big deal!”
Bingo.
Aki grinned like he’d won the lottery.
“But don’t you go telling him any of this, I’m sure it’ll make him even more upset...”
“You think he’s upset about that?” asked Aki, not meaning to get into love doctor mode, but the look on Yuuya’s face said it all.
Yuuya shrugged. “I don’t know, I mean I didn’t think anything of it.”
Aki rolled his eyes and crouched down to help with the cleaning. “Good job dork, that’s probably why he’s upset.”
“What do you mean?”
Aki sighed. “You should’ve told him how that made you feel...”
“What was I supposed to feel? We were just curious!”
Aki watched him for a moment. “So are you saying that it didn’t mean anything at all to you?”
Yuuya shrugged again. “I don’t know, I guess...”
Aki’s eyes narrowed. “I think you’re lying..”
Yuuya gave him a look. “I’m not!”
“What are you afraid of, Yuuya?”
“Nothing! It was just a kiss! We were just curious! It’s not like I have feelings for him or something!”
Bingo. Again.
Yuuya was just too easy, and he realized too late that he fell into another one of Aki’s traps yet again. He watched that grin form again on the bassist’s handsome face.
“Yuuya, do you have a crush on Mao…?”
“No I don’t…”
“I think you do…”
“I don’t!”
Aki gave him a coy look with his hands at his hips but Yuuya shot back with: “we’re just friends! The kiss meant nothing to me! He means nothing to me!”
But Aki got to his feet. “Oh yeah? We’ll see about that.” and then walked out of the room with Yuuya at his heels.
He was heading straight for Mao who was in the conference room leaning against the long table, hunched over a notepad and tapping his pencil against it in thought.
Yuuya stumbled after him but froze at the sight of Mao. “Aki! What are you doing? Don’t tell him anything!! Aki!!”
“Relax, I want to know just how much Mao doesn’t mean anything to you.” He muttered and Yuuya watched in horror a good distance away as Aki tapped Mao on the shoulder, and when Mao was barely able to smile and greet the bassist warmly, straightening himself up and turning away from his work, Aki cupped his face and slammed his lips against Mao’s, kissing him deep enough for Yuuya to see that he was serious.
Mao turned into jelly under his hands, but the look on Yuuya’s face was priceless, and enough to know that his point was made clear.
When they pulled apart Mao was breathless and in shock, but Aki still finished with a lingering kiss which only served to add more fuel to the fire that was Yuuya. Mao glanced between the two in daze and Aki looked to Yuuya and motioned towards the vocalist.
“I think you two should talk.” He smiled at Yuuya but Yuuya was not happy one bit, and Aki had to sidestep around the seething drummer just to leave the room.
But when Aki glanced back the first time he found them talking in a bit of irritation and for a moment there, he worried. All kinds of wrong outcomes started coursing through his mind which could make the situation even worse and potentially ruin his friendship with Mao.
He couldn’t live with that…
But when he glanced back a second time, his gaze lingered on them a little longer and he smiled warmly.
For standing in the same spot he was in just moments ago was Yuuya, where he was meant to be all along, holding Mao’s face tenderly. He was muttering something, slowly and affectionately and the look in his eyes was so sincere. And it wasn’t long for his lips to be met with Mao’s as well in a sweet and gentle, first real kiss, between the two.
