Introduction post

Inspired by kezmd, I decided to make a post about myself. I have a few new people on my friend's list who don't know me, and I'm sure those who do can use a refreshment ( ;] )!

#My name is Maren, I'm 21 years and a Norwegian. I was born on the 29th of February, which caused me both grief and joy when I was little; "You don't have a birthday! You're only 3!". I have two older brothers, Thomas and Christian, they are 28 and 25, the first is a physiotherapist and personal trainer, and the second is a student and football player (that would be soccer to some of you). My parents are insufferable in large amounts, but lovely. My grandfather is 93 years old, and he loves America. He made me learn all the states by heart, alphabetically. I still remember a disturbingly large part of them. When I was a kid I participated in a sand castle competition, and he gave us an American flag to put on top of the castle. We were disqualified, because "it's a Norwegian sand castle!". It was bad; I felt sad.

#I was born in Bodø because my parents lived (and still live) in a tiny town with no maternity ward. Or any other type of ward for that matter. I grew up there and moved as far as possible, which was first year of high school. The first year of high school was great, the second one was absolutely awful, the third one was bad and the fourth was kind of ok. It took me four years due to personal reasons.

#My boyfriend's name is Stian; he's from the south part of Norway, and since I'm from the north it took a while before we could understand what the other person was saying. I met him through a friend, we "hooked up" and spent a night together. The next day I spent the night, and the next eight months, at his place. Now we live together and it's great. We're pretty different as far as hobbies go, but agree on most important things. He's bald, I love it.

#We live in Bergen, which is in the western part of Norway, and it always rains. I've become extremely skilled with umbrellas. We both study at the University of Bergen, me in the Faculty of Humanities, and him in the Faculty of Social Sciences. More specifically, he studies cognitive science and I study English. I transfered over from linguistics this semester, so I haven't really started with the proper subjects. The subjects I should be taking are only available in the spring semester, so I'm using some of my free study points (I have no idea if there's an English equivalent term for what I'm talking about, so please just roll with it ;)) on literature. My plan is to eventually work with translating between Norwegian and English. I'm really loving the literature subjects, even though I'm getting the sense that my literary sensibility needs to be worked on a bit. I never seem to have the same reaction to the books as I'm supposed to. For example, I didn't really think Emma Bovary was an extraordinary woman, and I didn't have any sympathy for Heathcliff.
That's all I can think of right now, just ask if there's anything you want to know!
