Training & Elections I was pretty fun.
[Names in bold will serve as "shout outs". They are not to be confused as name-dropping]
I woke up at around 7am and picked up a birthday card/gift and had a whole meal of food with Mike Lyons. The card and food delayed us about half hour. After that we hopped on the road en route to Camp Roberts, Paso Robles.
About fifteen minutes into the drive we started to get a feeling that maybe we forgot to check how long it would take us to get there, whether or not we'd be late, and whether or not we're on the right freeway and working with right directions. After a dozen calls to different people, we found out we were shitting our pants for no reason -- Mrs. Lyons informed us that we were going the right way.
We got to camp by 10:30 or 11:00, I forget. We saw Steve as we were having our car checked out. Mike and I picked up our keys to OUR OWN INDIVIDUAL ROOMS! This is significant because we were expection to share an open floor with a dozen other guys and use restrooms that have no stalls and toilets with permanent poop streaks. Anyway, our rooms came furnished with a real bed with blankets, complimentary towels and cake of soap, a desk, two drawers, and a closet. Our team leader John bought us all chips, cookies and soda. I had Cactus Cooler.
Mike and I wandered around for a bit and waited outside the tent where the interns met. After their meeting was over, we were finally able to see Mark, Lisa, and the gang. But there was still no sign of Sarah and Carolyn. It only took us another half hour of aimless wandering for us to finally bump into Sarah and Carolyn. I was able to bump into Kayla during lunch time and morphin' time. All three ladies were looking lovely.
Our workload consisted of us 6 guys and one lady folding, stacking, and re-located chairs and tables. One night we were riding on the back of a loading truck and the military police pulled us over after having followed us for a half mile. He told us that we were not allowed to ride on the back of the truck and demanded that we get off immediately. We told him that we couldn't get down unless someone from the outside operated the lift. The MP acted uncharacteristically like a little bitch by pouting, shaking his head, complaining to John, and firing a couple of rounds at us. R.I.P. Clayton.
The entire weekend was really relaxed. The experience is really different than that I had as a delegate. The most rewarding part of the weekend was doing hard work behind the scenes. Seeing familiar faces was really nice, too. The long down time and the boredom was not cool.
I'm really looking forward to BOB 2. But I'm not going to lie, it was pretty nice coming back home. I sorta missed people here. Now that I'm here, I miss the people at BOB.
