I just re-downloaded Fleetwood Mac's classic hit record, "Rumours", the cover of which features, if I remember correctly, Stevie Nicks looking typically Wiccan and Lindsey Buckingham in some kind of terrifying man-tights and a billowing nightmare of a poet's shirt. That leads me to think about some of the more embarrassing music that I love

Yes Yes and YES to the Gay Trifecta! My weakness to New Wave in general, and these three in particular, is a fairly new development in my musical education and is a result of my Retail Exile. I have a whole fake argument about the autonomous joy taken by the New Wave in the expansion of the kingdom of Pop Sounds (to impress the music snobs out there), but it's really just a smokescreen to cover my joy in harmonizing Andy Bell ( ... )

Nick, I'm totally down with bluegrass and country of the 50's and 60's too. And our shared love of the Gay Trifecta leads me to believe someday we should make each other mix tapes. (Speaking of new wave, do you like Squeeze? I feel they're often overlooked and actually pretty great.) Actually, I've been trying to beef up my bluegrass and country collection and I'd love some suggestions if you have any. I love almost all of it. Oh, and I really like a lot of rockabilly, too, though some of it also drives me up the wall.
I guess I also neglected to mention in the entry that I have a deep and abiding respect for Dolly Parton. And her formidable bust. I even like "Islands in the Stream", and I know that I should be embarrassed about that.

The most exciting thing about New Wave, though, is listening to Punk negation (that's actual punk, btw) begin to negate itself. Fascinating shit. Also, Debbie Harry, of Blondie: hot shit.
As for classic country, I only ever listened to my Aunt's old 45s (which she kept in a cabinet next to her cabinet of .45s), and I've never actually done a real genre survey. Feel free to throw stuff my way, too.
I have photos of my hair, (and my new look in general), but no site on which to host 'em.

Debbie Harry is a goddess. I even liked her solo album called Communion, if I recall correctly. I'm a big fan of Wire, too, who did some really interesting new wave/punk negation, too.

Otherwise, my usual mishmash of 80's-ish post-punk and college rock: Mission of Burma, The Feelies, The Fall, Husker Du, Dinosaur Jr., Fugazi, etc. Have been really into The Misfits/Samhain. Also, a lot of classical music, but I listen to that mostly on the radio so I have no control over what is hearing. Usually I just set my itunes so it just plays my entire collection of Mew on random over and over and over again. I'm pretty obsessed. I'm sure after I see them live it will be so much worse.
