So I was driving on the interstate and some person tried to merge into my lane without looking and almost hit me and so I swerved to avoid being hit and my car spun out of control and I ended up in the woods. Here are some pictures.
It wasn't super terrible. The driver's side window is broken and the door won't open and the right side of the windshield is cracked. But something important was leaking. And the airbags deployed, and apparently that takes about $1500 to get replaced, which is more than the car costs even before repairs. So bugger that.
It was kind of surprising, and when the airbags deployed it was actually kind of annoying since I didn't really need them and they knocked off my glasses and broke my CD player. Honestly, I think that's what cracked the windshield since there was no other damage on the right side. Aw man, I totally left my Mountain Goats CD in the car. It was The Sunset Tree, too!
And the worst part of this? Because the car didn't actually hit me there's no way to prove that's why the accident happened. I actually have a court date for "failure to maintain control of vehicle." I could be fined money for totaling my car, all because somebody can't look over their shoulder or signal before changing lanes. At least a friendly person caught the license plate of the car and stopped to share the information with me and the police.
At least I now know I remain perfectly calm in scary situations like that.
