I have made no further progress reading UltraMetabolism (the weekend was full, and during the weekend I bought a lot of comic books which are eminently more readable...), but tonight I am making some pork & lentils in a pot with broth because I got the memo about eating more fiber in the form of legumes ( Read more... )

why would you be terrifying?
you probably won't have it tomorrow, either, huh?

i made mushroom barley soup tonight. It was delicious, and leaves lunch and a meal in the freezer. Dang, i love soup.

I'm not a fan of lentils.

I've been doing more dried beans this year than ever before... partly for protein and fiber, partly because it's way cheap, and partly because they're sooo nice on freezing days. I cannot find any rhyme or reason for how some beans take for-freakin-EVER to cook, and some are done so quickly, except that if I plan ahead for hours of simmering, they're done super fast, and if I try to boil 'em like heck to get 'em done in two hours, they're still crunchy (and yes, they all get presoaked the night before). There are tons of ethnic markets around here; I've been trying all sorts of new and fun varieties.

None of us becomes particularly fearsome after beans, although the household's musicality increases noticeably. Bill's Waterloo is the onion, though.
