Originally I wanted to write something about the new Metallica album, but I haven't listened to it enough yet. I try not to judge an album until I know it. Some of my favourite CDs are the ones where I intially thought "Ough, what a waste of money ( Read more... )

Yeah, I totally agree, I've argued this point for a long time. The problem is that, in the current society, we appear to value convenience over quality. To me, my iPod is fine for music on the go, in the car, on aircraft, etc., but for proper sit-back-and-appreciate-it music, I prefer vinyl. Appreciably it's inferior to R2R tape, but my R2R machine is bloody noisy, and I only have a few reels of live bootlegs. Anyway, R2R has a shelflife of (maybe) 20 years before the particles unadhere from the tape, so my machine currently resides in the roof.

Convenience over quality? I have a workmate who has spent maybe £2500 on audio gear in the last few years. He's ripped all his CDs to mp3, stuck them on his iPod, and put the CD's in the roof, because he thinks they look messy on the shelf.

Madness.........
