“Play with me!” Ryeowook said, pulling the younger though slightly taller boy away from the desk.
“It’s not good to keep sitting at your desk.”
Entering the music room with the other boy behind him, Ryeowook went to the grand piano, opening the cover.
“Let’s sing,…”
*Ring!*
Ryeowook groaned as he opened his eyes. That’s the second strange dream I’ve had in two days. Ryeowook thought to himself. The only thing that seemed to always linger in his mind was the fact that he still did not know the name of the younger boy. He knew in some parts of him that the name was something important, but he could never remember it. Climbing out of his bed, Ryeowook wondered if these were his lost memories.

Hankyung entered the café just before the lunch hour. He was done for the day in university and was now at his mother’s café where he worked part-time during the week. The café only opened from12 noon till 10 at night. His parents were the main people working at the restaurant, with him, Ryeowook and most of their friends forming the part-time crew.
Hankyung walked into the locker room, surprised to see someone already there for he knew that he was the one who ended the earliest that day. Yesung would only be coming in an hour’s time. His mother walked in just then.
“Oh Han Geng, you’re here.”
Hankyung turned to his mother just as the other person turned towards them.
“Let me introduce you two. This is…”
“Hankyung-sshi.”
“Kyuhyun-sshi.”
Hankyung’s mother looked mildly surprised at the pair. “So you know each other. That’s good. I’ll leave Han Geng to explain the things to you then.”
Hankyung was left alone staring at Kyuhyun.
“I didn’t know you were going to work here.”
“I needed a job.” That was all Kyuhyun gave as an explanation.
Hankyung nodded, turning to his locker and taking out his clothes.
After both of them were dressed in the waiter’s clothes with an apron tied around their waist, Hankyung brought Kyuhyun behind the counter to explain how they operated.
“Usually there are two to three of us at any time. Well, for now it’s just the two of us, with Yesung coming in later. If there are two of us, one of us will man the cashier as well as the coffee machine while the other would do the actual serving and taking orders. If there are three of us, then the third will man the coffee machine, and serving the food if the floor gets too heavy.”
Kyuhyun nodded.
“Do you know how to use the coffee machine?”
Getting a blank look as his answer, Hankyung concluded that Kyuhyun had no idea.
“Well, there’s no time to teach you right now for we’re going to open in a couple of minutes. Which days do you come in?”
“Monday, Wednesday, Friday.”
Hankyung looked stunned. “Three days?”
“There’s no limit on the number of hours we can work by the university.”
Hankyung nodded, accepting the explanation. He was just shocked for most of them were only in on one and occasionally two days in the week especially since the café was closed on Sundays.
“If there’s time later, I’ll get Yesung to teach you how to use the coffee machine. He’s the best at it, the coffee-addict. Otherwise, we’ll just find some other time to teach you. For now, the floor will be yours.”
Kyuhyun nodded again.
“On second thought, I’ll take the first few customers while you memorise the menu. There’s not much on the menu, but it’ll help you in writing the orders faster.”
Hankyung handed Kyuhyun a menu just as the first set of customers walked in.
“Welcome!”
Kyuhyun quickly got the hang of things in the café and was soon helping out on the floor as Yesung came in to man the cashier and the coffee machine. Hankyung looked suitably impressed at the ease Kyuhyun seemed to grasp things around the café and everything was going fine. Soon it was nearly seven when Hankyung’s mother announced that they were closing early for the day.
“Han Geng, I’ll leave you to close the shop. I’m going back now. Your father should be back soon.”
Hankyung nodded, knowing that his father was due back home today after a trip back to their hometown for a funeral.
“You’re pretty good for your first day.” Yesung commented to Kyuhyun, wiping his hands on his apron.
“I’ve done this before.” Kyuhyun explained, taking off his apron.
“Yesung, do you have the time to now to teach Kyuhyun-sshi how to use the coffee machine?”
“Just call me Kyuhyun. It’ll be hard to say that when it gets busy, Hankyung-sshi.”
“Then, you do the same as well. Or just call me Hyung will do.”
“That won’t do for he would be referring to me as well.” Yesung injected.
“Oh, right. We’ll think of something.”
Ignoring Hankyung, Yesung turned to Kyuhyun.
“I’ll show you how to use the machine.” Yesung beckoned Kyuhyun to follow him.
Hankyung walked towards the kitchen.
“Yesung ah, do you need dinner?”
“Nope, I’m heading home for dinner and the weekend.”
“How about you, Kyuhyun?”
Kyuhyun looked up, taken aback that he was offered as well.
“No, it’s fine Hankyung-sshi.”
“What did I just say?”
“I mean Hankyung-hyung. I’ll just grab something when I head back.”
“It’s fine. I’ll make something for you. Besides we can’t keep the leftover ingredients.”
Before Kyuhyun could protest even more, Hankyung disappeared into the kitchen.
“Don’t bother protesting. You’ll never out-argue them - Hankyung and his mother. Just treat it as one of the perks working here.” Yesung said before he began explaining how the coffee machine worked.
So in the end, Kyuhyun left the café with one big bag of food, which he tried to reject for it was really too much.
“It’s fine. You could share it with your roommates, and you look like you should eat more.”
Hankyung chided Kyuhyun slightly for his lanky figure. Yesung muffled his laughter next to Hankyung.
“Hankyung, you’re really becoming like Teukie-hyung.”
With that, Yesung left the pair.
“I do not.” Hankyung threw at Yesung’s back. Then he turned to Kyuhyun.
“Be careful on the way back, and I’ll see you tomorrow.”
Kyuhyun nodded, bowing as Hankyung turned walking in the other direction as Kyuhyun headed back to his dorm.
As he walked down the path, Kyuhyun looked down at the bag of food in his hand. How long has it been since I’ve eaten something someone cooked for me? Kyuhyun forced his eyes back on the road, refusing to take the trip down the memory lane right now. His footsteps became quicker as he tried to distract himself. You’re not going to remember those now.
Reaching the dorm, he took out his keys, glad to have made it back to the dorm without losing himself in his past. Opening the door, Kyuhyun entered to find Changmin sitting by the dining table. He walked towards the table, placing the bag of food on it.
“What’s this?” Changmin asked as he ate a piece of kimchi.
“Food from Hankyung…hyung.” Kyuhyun still had trouble calling Hankyung ‘Hyung’.
“Food? Can I open it?”
Kyuhyun nodded, putting his bag on the chair before helping Changmin take out the food.
Laying out the food, Kyuhyun could see that it was quite a spread. I wonder if Hankyung-sshi knows Jaejoong-sshi. Kyuhyun wondered as his thoughts went back to the night before when they were treated with loads of food by their dormitory head. Henry entered the dorm just then, carrying his violin case.
“Henry! Come join us!” Changmin called out, waving to the shorter boy.
Henry placed his violin case in his room before joining them at the table.
“Wow, where did all the food come from? Did Jaejoong-sshi come by?”
Henry too was astonished by the food on the table.
“Kyuhyun brought it back.”
“Hankyung-sshi gave it to me” was Kyuhyun’s explanation to Henry.
The three settled round the table for dinner - a second round for Changmin. As Kyuhyun ate, he watched as the other two ate as well, almost inhaling the food on the table. He couldn’t help but smile slightly. It had been a long time since he had dinner with others.
And he missed it.
