A Personal Letter from Harvey to Elwood P. Dowd

I found something among my Easter presents and I thought I share it with those who always wondered what the real story behind Harvey was :o)
Please enjoy!

Dear Elwood,

finally I have time to write and tell you about all the things that happened since we parted four weeks ago. The family situation is even worse than I originally feared. Uncle Herbert´s sudden illness made it necessary to inform the whole extended family. Upon their arrival on Easter Island we had a meeting where we had to decide how to proceed. But first things first. After my arrival my aunt Hermine informed me that it was necessary to arrange an extended stay for uncle Herbert on Hawaii, so he can fully recover from his illness. Then, as you know, she contacted me because, to quote her `my dear boy, you are the only one in this family with brains and not only looks´. So there I was arranging everything for the family meeting get things on track because without a doubt Easter was drawing nearer and there were still one or two things to do.

We Bunnys are a very large family, as I have often mentioned, but nonetheless all 2000 had to work around the clock to get everything ready for Easter. It is beyond me how uncle Herbert, aunt Hermine and their 100 kids were able to do it on their own all those years. On the other hand my uncle has always been an organisational talent and he managed to keep the business successful for such a long time that I have never thought about the amount of hard work it took him and his family to keep things going.

As I already mentioned, his illness made things complicated for my aunt and kids and it threw them off a bit, I suppose. But I am getting distracted, which is only natural because I really love my family but only in small doses. All 2014 of us are a bit too much even if I have not seen the others in a long time.

So, after we finally finished all the preparations for Easter it had to be decided who of us was going to deliver all the beautiful eggs to the children all over the world. I thought it would be fair to give Harry the chance to follow in his father´s footsteps, but to my dismay the others were not convinced that Harry was ready for this big step. Being only 1.99m in height was not enough for them to do a successful job. We had some very heated discussions and in the end a unanimous resolution said that I, with my 2.10m, would be the Bunny to act on my uncle´s behalf. I wish you could have been there, my mother was overjoyed and my father has never been prouder.

I, on the other hand, felt a bit apprehensive,a s you can imagine, because of the great responsibility. The whole family put their trust in me and I could not disappoint them. But I only took the job under one condition: Harry had to accompany me. After all it was his father who runs the family business and one day he would be the one to be the next Easter Bunny, not me. Harry was delighted when I asked him to help me with the job. I suppose he was just waiting for a chance to prove that he was worthy of the job of being the Easter Bunny. On Easter Day Harry and I set off for our task and though it was a wonderful and gratifying experience I wonder how uncle Herbert still does it with his not less than 587 years. Having done a successful job, Harry and I are now with uncle Herbert, who is tremendously proud of his oldest, and we are enjoying the sun and sea on Hawaii.

Looking forward to seeing you again and being able to tell you everything I saw on my journey around the world is

your dear friend

Harvey Bunny

P.S.: Oh, by the way, I you wonder about my uncle Herbert´s illness, he lost all the fur of his tail. Very embarrassing for an Easter Bunny, don´t you think?
