a conversation with a rosary soldier

This morning on my way to work I went up to the girl standing outside of the women's clinic with her rosary and started a little conversation, which is quite unusual for me. I'm much more likely to just spit at the ground or shout something hostile and continue on my way. But today, I had something to ask. I had an idea ( Read more... )

Wonderful!

These fuckwits are apparently starting to trickle into the UK and I may have to steal that if I ever bump into any of them.

I just have a general rule of not being rude to someone before I actually see them being rude first (to me or someone else). Maybe that specific girl never said anything offensive. I don't share her views, but I can imagine a non-offensive way to go about what she is doing... Who knows?

And it's a shame, because if you haven't called her names, she might have actually thought about what you said. (But maybe I'm being overly optimistic here... :-))

that is a lovely general rule, Ola, but it is one I do not hold to myself. Still, I respect it very much. There are two problems I face in its application. The first is their rudeness: it is already manifest, simply by their presence. Their standing there, even if they say nothing, is offensive, and intentionally so, to the women who come to these places. Such women are by and large fraught with indecision and emotional turmoil. That is the rosary soldier's purpose, to prey on this indecision; to worsen the turmoil and foster doubt. They believe it is a small price to pay for saving lives. And that righteousness makes them even more obnoxious ( ... )

personal questions never faze me. I am 29. I believe that picture on my profile was taken about 5 years ago, however.

And I am surprised by your conflation of youth and sweetness. I feel that I am becoming more sweet as I age, perhaps linearly! haha
