If you were able to explain on a scientific level (cells/molecules) why a painting was beautiful (how your brain processes/interprets why it's beautiful), would it decrease your enjoyment of it?

Please elaborate.

Yeah, it would. I'm thinking art is anything but a science. It all lies in your emotional interpretation of what you're looking at. You have to include all these factors - what state of mind where you were when you saw it, how it affected you, etc. If that was all boiled down to a formula, it wouldn't mean anything. It'd be data, not an experience - which art is.

And that would suck since I hate science.
