I was literally just talking about this sort of thing with one of the girls that I'm hollering at...

One point I'd add is that today's music isn't made for us. Popular music is always going to be youth-driven, and the further we get from youth (though we're really not that far just yet) the more we're going to be outside the mainstream.

That said...good music is good no matter what. I like Maroon 5, though I suppose even though they are relatively new they are a bit "adult contemporary." Fall Out Boy and Panic at the Disco are a couple of great modern bands, but kids either love them because they skew emo or hate them for the same reason. Forget the killer guitars (FOB) or awesome melodies (PatD). Musicianship is never rewarded until years later, if a band survives that long.

There's a LOT of shit being produced these days...remember when Grunge showed up and started banging Freefall...wait, that's Gen13...Grunge showed up and almost instantly killed 80s metal ( ... )
