Even in the wide-open horizons of the Nexus sky, where Ali knew she wouldn't be badly hurt by a fall, she didn't relish the thought of landing solo. Normally, being so helpless and entirely at another's mercy would not sit well with her independent spirit, and she certainly would have protested being picked up without a by-your-leave. But with ( Read more... )

Had she voiced her request, Namor would most probably have acquiesced quite easily. It's true that the things they both need to do would probably force them to come back down to earth a great deal sooner than he would like. Still, that doesn't stop him from enjoying the time they're afforded now. When Ali points out the cove though, he smiles, nodding in agreement and beginning to descend until his feet touch the sand. Only then does he gently set down his precious cargo.

"Here we are."

Even with her feet on the ground--maybe especially then--Ali sees no reason to let go of him. Instead she presses close again, her head on his shoulder and her arms curled around him. "Namor... I know I'm horrible at this, but I owe you a thousand apologies. I should never have tried to demand more of you than I knew you could give, and I shouldn't have confused a man's attention with his goodness. I should have been more patient, and more honest, and more understanding that love is powerful but not immediate. I made... I made a dreadful mistake. I wish..."

This is obviously, visibly hard for her to do, but if he wants more, she'll keep going. He deserves whatever she can offer to ease his pains. "I don't know how to fix it, but I pray that I can."

Namor's arms slide around her waist, his hold not loosening. It's been a long time since he's been able to hold her this close, and it's something he's going to make the most of. As she apologises however, he shuts his eyes, simply listening as she speaks, letting her finish all she wants to say before he replies. "It wasn't an easy time, my love. With the Migration, the building, the everything. I wasn't here, with you as I should have been. I was too frightened that you would be hurt in some way, to let you help. I wasn't ready to accept your strength. I think we both made mistakes."

A hand raises to her cheek his fingers tenderly brushing across her skin. It isn't that it didn't hurt. But he knows that the pain made him stronger, made him better. And how can he hold that against her? "You aren't alone. We can fix it together."

"Together." Ali sighs the word, and smiles, and lifts her head to kiss his fingers. "Yes, together." It's a good word, and a better idea. "But how? Tell me what you need from me."
