After far too many years of having the same layout, I went for a change. Of course, I spent a lot of time wrestling/re-learning LJ's change your style system since I hadn't ever changed anything on the newest (old already) system

I'm like you. I alternate between "fun" and "serious" reading. I also like to throw in some "guaranteed to make me furious" stuff just because I like to read the other side of things (and yes, that's why I'm reading Savitri Devi right now).

Just did this, thanks. I don't use affiliate links on my LJ (although I have on fansites in the past), but even if I did, the fact that I pay them for the use of their service would make me a bit irritable about them trying to make extra money off of me.

Yeah, that's pretty much my reason too. Since I pay them, I don't want to create content for them. If it's a free service, that's different because there's an investment in keeping it free.
