Moving Away

This room, which was never properly furnished, never properly lived in, then filled with boxes is now nearly empty again. My things wait in the otherwise empty living room to get packed away in a trailer tomorrow. It is the easiest packing I've ever done because I never really unpacked at all. I know that feeling, of wanting to settle and put down roots, but at the same time, being so used to NOT settling. I have this Depeche Mode poster that I've put off finding a frame for and then hanging, because I don't know if I'm renewing my lease on this place for another year or not. It's the stupidest goddamn reason to not hang up a Depeche Mode poster, I mean, they're only my favorite band. But somehow it's like, if I hang up that poster, then decide to move to a new apartment, it'll just make me feel so disappointed when I have to take it down. When I briefly left NYC for six months and moved back down to Savannah, I never really unpacked either...it was like I knew I'd be back here.

So wait, where are you now and where are you headed?

I really think that of all the places you've been, Asheville is one of the nicest to plant permanent roots. It's such a great and cozy place. Cold, but great!

I have boxes with things from high school that haven't been unpacked since... well, I went away to college. I also now have a large box filled with shopping bags of "junk drawer" contents. Too.Much.Frequent.Moving.

I thoroughly relate to the desire to set down some roots.

Oddly, now that we are in what will hopefully be the "forever" house, I had quite a bit of anxiety about it. Though probably because neither the house nor the neighborhood is what I'd had in mind for "forever."
