7 Things about me that might be new to you

Naamah_darling picked 7 of my interests for me to write about. If you want to play along, comment; I'll pick 7 of your interests for you to write about, you post with these instructions in your LJ to keep spreading the fun.

Naamah_darling chose Medieval combat, Sherlock Holmes, The Magnificent Seven, The Scarlet Pimpernel, web comics, British Naval history, and artillery off of my list.

Medieval combat This one is fairly easy for anyone that has known me for any length of time (post-marriage.)
Jer and I have stayed friends with his ex-girlfriend from high school and one night she invited us to a "Medieval Combat Class" run by a group of guys that worked as cast at the Renaissance Faire.
This group was none another that the Landsknechts...Lo and behold, they liked us so much that they asked us to join them. I am now with a group of wonderfully crazy men and have met my extended "Family" because of our work with them.
And the rest, as they say, is history. ;-)

Sherlock Holmes- One of my favorite subjects...I discovered Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's and (one of the Greatest Literary characters ever) detective when I was in the third grade.
Yes, you read that correctly. I read every novel and short story that I could get my hands on and have seen almost everything from The Young Sherlock Holmes to The Great Mouse Detective ((Still want a copy of those two) along with the Basil Rathbone versions. My favorite Holmes is still Jeremy Brett though.
I guess you could say Holmes was my first crush literature-wise.
He was a man that used his brain before his fists and could do almost anything.
I still love him. The hubby has learned to accept it. *tease*

The Magnificent Seven I've always loved a good western and when CBS put out a tv series based upon a movie (that I had yet to see when the show aired) with Michael Biehn *drool* playing the lead...You can darned sure bet I watched it!
Yes, the series was cheesy and, as my husband later pointed out, semi-politically correct (they changed some of the main characters) but the music was great and damn, what good eye-candy!
It was canceled, and brought back by the fans' petitions. The show got a lot darker by the second season before CBS ultimately decided to cancel it.
And the writer/producers? Went on to do a little show called Lost. ;-)

The Scarlet Pimpernel Okay, my SECOND literary crush was a bit more complicated.
Sir Percy Blakeney is a British nobleman married to a French actress during the Revolution.
Long story short? He thinks she's a traitor due to misunderstanding, She thinks he's boring...and doesn't know that he's sneaking into France in a host of outrageous disguises to help the French Nobility escape Madam Guillotine...they both are still madly in love, just have a lot to sort out...Kind of like most married couples. ;-)
Sir Percy reminds me of my husband in a lot of ways.
I introduced him to the book when we were in college. He saw Marguerite (the heroine) as a spoiled brat at first, but between re-reading it as well as listening to Frank Wildhorn's Musical version, he understand her a bit better now.
Read all about him here

web comics I didn't really get into web-comics until college, but I've found quite a few that I read every day. We don't get the paper anymore, so I get my funnies this way.
Yes the list is huge, so I'm only posting two favorites.
- A girl her dog and the Aztec God of alcohol (Yes, I have the 8-ball shirt)

A semi-pro Republican and completely funny comic

British Naval history- Okay, I'll be honest, this started all because of Jack Davenport (And my husband.) Now before you go getting any crazy/kinky ideas, I DO have a legit reason.
I found Jack Davenport's "Norrington" in the POTC series fascinating. And when my husband ended up PLAYING a British Naval officer at Pirate Fair I jumped at the chance to make him an accurate coat.
I am an absolute history nut...was thisclose to majoring in it at college. Sometimes I wish that I still had.
And being a military wife as well as a descendant of several military men, I find this particular subject fascinating.

Artillery - This one is actually the simplest. My husband is a member of the Nat'l Guard artillery...While he was overseas on a tour, I decided, in his honor, to learn how to fire a cannon. Thanks to my friend Troll's careful training, I became part of his all female (and Jeff) cannon crew.
My hubby gets to fire bigger guns (howitzers) but I can make a pretty loud bang with our smaller ones.
And besides, what's sexier than a woman straddling a cannon and ramming the load home? ;-)
