I've always thought "friends list" was a very poor choice of labels. Also, I'd prefer if "people whose LJs I want to read regularly" and "people who I want to be able to read my locked posts" were two *separate* lists by default rather than one.

I think it was Sine who called it a "subscribers list" when i had a particular bit of drah-mah that involved people friending & unfriending & friending . . . and i think that is probably the best term for it i've heard.
