I'm trying to connect my cctv camera to my pc using one of these how do I get the computer to recognise the input? And what app should/could I use to record?

Hmm, I'm afraid that kind of connector on your PC is for the opposite: to connect your monitor output to an external display (a TV). I think it'll need a TV-card or something similar in your laptop. I don't even know if they have these for laptops.

ah that's a pain, do you know if you can get ones that goes the other way?

I am not an expert on video capture, but this appears to be something that'll work.
