Cuddy found that lately, everyone in the hospital had been giving her looks. At first, she checked whether she was wearing a shirt that showed her bra under florescent light (but then again, if she was, House would be the first one to thank her), then she checked whether anything else was off - an extra arm, an extra eye, still nothing.

When the apple of her eye waltzed into her office, she gave him the same look she always did when he came in here with some other complaint.

Though, now instead of disdain, she usually met it with humor. Getting up for her chair to gingerly touch his shoulders - perhaps leaning in, but not quite where he wanted her.

"Where is he so I can kiss it better?"

"I'll tell you if you're getting warm." House answered, a hand resting on her waist. As wrong as the word 'wife' kept sounding, a nagging persistence on the edge of his thoughts, this felt right. Lucky.

Lucky. It was easy to push the thoughts aside and glance up at her with a smirk that didn't hold it's usual stinging sharpness.

"I don't know whether to congratulate the man in the clinic or be jealous if he got that close."

It was a small smile that was hidden with the comment, but it still didn't stop her from standing just a bit closer to him. She could never bring herself to say that House was her husband, mainly because it was House of all people she was married to.

"Did you come here to tell me about your exploits through the clinic, past the rabid patients or is there a hidden agenda."

The word agenda had a hidden connotation, it was just up to him to get what she was hinting at.

"You don't have to be jealous until he has a rack that can open a beer bottle." House answered, taking her subtle connotation with a look that was such a mockery of innocence it was disgusting.

"Me?" His smile sharpened a touch. "Well it depends on how much your blinds back there hide."
