It's sad too.. I feel sorry for these girls for when they finally do marry some American creepo and then come here and realize that this country is awful

I should have explained myself before making a statement like that. there are some great things about this country, and it is built on some awesome ideals, but rather than going by the ideals and good thoughts, I look at this country as a whole based on what the majority of people here are doing with their lives, and what the general cultural mindset it. we're shouted at since birth that we need to behave, we need to be attractive, we need to be happy and not show emotion. We need to be smart and get good grades so we can get a good job and benefit out society, work, consume, and retire when we're 65.. and the majority of people buy into this without questioning it, and most of them are miserable.. not to mention the biasedness of the media and shady things our government does.. one of my good friends Desha is a doctor and I hear about all kinds of shifty crap that goes on with different companies in power trying to minimalize or hide the horrrible facts about a medication, or something that is extremely dangerous because if the ( ... )

Thats because you don't know. I don't aim to be mean, but vic you have no idea how awful other countries are and I expect more from you than to make opinions not knowing the other side of the story. That is one thing which bothers me to no end-because when people make uneducated opinions too quickly it makes information watered-down. Its hard enough to get true information-don't contribute to making it more difficult. When one says "country" it refers to how the country is run, not just the moral charecter or whatever of the people which live in it. People are awful everywhere so it goes without saying that people are awful here too. You would be so thankful to live here if you knew what it was like in other countries. In most of asia they pick out what job you have for you-you don't get to choose. and mexico is so freaking poor it causes more corruption and violence than we have in America (because of the way mexico's government is set up ( ... )

As far as how this country is run from the top, I am for the most part very happy with it. I do take for granted how much liberty we and some european countries have since the way it is in poor/communist/ect places isn't quite a reality to me, which is a big reason I want to travel, to gain a more real perspective. If i was born in China and told i had to be an accountant, i would be going nuts right now. I'm also thankful I was born here ( ... )

wow i really didn't mean to start all of this. when i read your first post i just thought of all the people that i know from other countries that were so glad to be here. i thought about all of the things that happen in other coutnries that nobody does anything about. i have a friend in russia ( the love of my life type of friend) that tells me about everybodies drinking and drug problem and it is just so sad to me how rampant that is there. you're right though, as a society all Godliness is forgotten and money is a huge focus in America. there are of course problems with America and i don't mind if people voice their opinion about them, really it just urges me to find more things out for myself. anyway i think you and katie both have very ballad points. you were speaking from what you know, which is all anyone can really do, and katie was putting a broader more diplomatic idea into the mix.i'm just glad the both of you care enough to care ( ... )

You're rad, Megan. hippies, haha, that's funny.. yeah there are a ton here, super-liberal minded people, if that's who you're talking about. I'm constantly immersed in that atmosphere where I work, at the natural food store. From what Katie tells me people are so much happier in Arizona, and are so much more connected to each other than people here. It sounds wonderful

Its not like your making it sound- arizona is not a fantasy land by any means and I didn't mean to describe it as such if I did. Most of the awesomeness I speak of was that of my personal friends and my past life. It was more like a bubble than a real place.

I don't think people are more connected to each other there...
Although I would go so far as to say happier. The feel of az is much more laid back and happy-go-lucky. It just seems that people don't feel as sorry for themselves in az, and all the sad, lonliness, and pessimism of oregon spurs from that. hmmmmm its really hard to describe. poor oregon, we are so mean to it.

I know all this, silly =) stupid expression through text-in-a-hurry. Except for i did get the impression that people there are more connected in general, since they're less depressed, they would have less of a reason to isolate themselves and happy people tend to hang out more than depressed people
