She'd really debated calling Ray. He wasn't exactly her favorite person in the world, all things considered. But she still cared about him and couldn't see leaving without at least talking to him first. Of course, Alan was also in the hospital now and felt he should probably be informed. She'd already called everyone else

Ray was stunned into silence for a moment, then stood from his desk, waving his hand at Welsh and taking the phone with him out of the bullpen.

"Hey," he said as he stepped into the quiet hallway. There were fewer people here and it would be easier to talk.

She smiled and decided not to spring the fact that Alan was ill on him instantly. "How have you been?"

There was no point in lying to her, he knew that. She'd be able to tell right through the phone line, so he ducked into a stairwell and leaned against the wall before saying, "Good. I been good. How're you?"

"I've been better but I'm all right." She paused and didn't really know where to go from there. "Alan's in the hospital."
