Yeah, I feel like about half of Americans think about many issues in a way that is different from all or most other industrialized countries. To be individualistic to the point of not wanting to give everyone healthcare astounds me. I've stopped trying to understand. And I wonder if that half will ever change. As far as I know, America also seems to be the only well-off country that is still quite religious from my perspective. This reminds me that my grand-pa who has voted conservative all his life said the government should take care of its people. Partly, I think he's just tired of phone calls from charities but still, I was surprised.
Sometimes I feel like the Conservatives in power here can do anything terrible and still 30% or more will support them (just enough for them to win it seems). I think I've stopped trying to understand that too. My half-brother also strongly supports the conservatives and I still don't get why. He just seems to like them.
