i can't tell you what the best thing to do would be, but i will tell you that i got my macbook in june and love it so far.

Over here I've heard they sell refurbished macs that are much cheaper but still have a warranty. You might look into that. My college ibook worked wonderfully for three years, at which point I sold it in good condition...
