Brian got me a Kindle Fire for Christmas! Now I need to load it with books! I haven't been paying attention to what's out there in a long time. I got "The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest", and a couple of free classic books (Sherlock Holmes, The Time Machine.) But am interested in some new stuff. I need suggestions, please!

Feed and Deadline by Mira Grant are FANTASTIC! (I say this with the understanding that I don't generally like Zombie books)

I love loading it up with big heavy books that I would read over and over but not take on a trip with me due to size. The whole Game of Thrones set, the Braoque trilogy (Stephenson, full title escapes me), The Stand, and of course there's this: http://www.gutenberg.org/wiki/Main_Page

Oh and Pillars of the Earth and the sequel...

There's also Amy's books, one is out, more to come - http://www.amazon.com/Beneath-the-Skin-ebook/dp/B005R2UFEM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1325247405&sr=8-1
(you know her from WAY back in NOLA as Mina)

And I really enjoy Kim Harrison's The Hollows series. Here's the first one: http://www.amazon.com/Dead-Witch-Walking-Hollows-Book/dp/0061567191/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_3

How's that? :)

John Connolly: "The Gates", and "The Book of Lost Things" - older books, I think, but I just read 'em and liked them a lot.
Tana French: "The Likeness" (there's an earlier book with same characters, not exactly a series, called "In the Woods", which was good until the drama took it over, then it was just disappointing.)

I'm reading "The Help" right now, and LOVE it.

Just finished "The Golden Mean" (about Aristotle teaching Alexander the Great), and feel like it needs a sequel or something. It was good, but ... abrupt.

Todd recommended Ruth Rendell... I've not gotten into any of her work yet but it's next on the list. Apparently they're creepy twisty mysteries.

Christopher Moore, if you haven't yet.
A. Lee Martinez's "Divine Misfortune" is hilarious.

Oh, and, Gail Carriger's Parasol Protectorate series. If you haven't already. :) So fun.

Brian said he got me one so I could have my own tablet device. I still feel like the iPad is his even though it's technically the company's.

If he uses the Olaf more than you do, it would seem more like it was his. That makes sense. ("Olaf" is what my Kindle thinks I meant when I typed "iPad," love that autocorrect ( ... )

Thanks, M! i will check out that note. I really love the idea of being able to read magazines on the kindle, especially for plane trips. It seems that's the only time I really want to read them anyway. I've been plowing through Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, I also downloaded a few hidden object adventure games because I'm addicted. Grisly Manor was ok, but short. I haven't found a whole lot of good ones for the tablet though. I have also been watching things on Netflix and HuluPlus, and youtube on the kindle. compared to my phone, it's like watching on a big screen tv!
