Good news for me.

I can't help but feel like I've failed a man I met today in the Nexus, but it seems like his mind was made up before he talked to me. Maybe I'm off my game. I should have said better things, or more useful things.

A dear friend of mine named a brand new sort of modified bacteria after me. Amoeba alleni; the common name is ( Read more... )

You're welcome to it! I'm nothing if not an enabler.

I've had people telling me to cut back for years. And I'm not too proud to shove this in their faces.

So, uh, amoeba named after you, huh? Is that a good thing?

Sometimes there's nothing we can say or do to change another person's mind. Don't beat yourself up over it.

That's a huge honor, regarding the amoeba.

I'm trying not to. I do feel somewhat responsible. If I had found the right combination of words....

I agree! I'm absolutely thrilled about that. They're beautiful, too.

It's hard when you try to help someone and they rebuff you.

A former boss of mine had a virus named after him, but I think I'd prefer an amoeba. I wouldn't want to hear about people getting ill from rhinovirus costas.

I'd love to see one.

I hate being idle when someone is hurting.

What did the virus do?

I have pictures that I can show off later!

I should tell people that's how I've lived to be so damn old.

You can't fail someone by not changing their set opinions. People bear the responsibility for that themselves.

It's the most amazing vindication for all of us heavy coffee-drinkers.

That's difficult, for me. I want to make things better, and it's upsetting when I'm unable. I know, theoretically, that I can't change the world. I don't have big delusions, but I want so badly to make things right.

I've never looked for vindication, but I won't say no to it.

Yes. Yes, I know. You just have to live with it.
