TRANSCRIPT:

Hello, I'm Cozz, and I want to cover Charmax's Respectable vid. It's a Spike vid based on Buffy The Vampire Slayer. And basically, the reason why I love this vid, is it sums up Spike's entire character in four minutes, and considering how complex Spike is and all the major facets of his character, that's really no mean feat. [laugh]

It starts off pretty linear, it's the other thing I like about this vid, is it's starts off very linear, and the song choice is amazing. It shows William starting off the 1800's. He gets rejected by Cecily, and he gets involved with Dru, and then there's this hot fieriness, and you know, William was very reserved, but the new Spike is very fiery, and there's a lot of fire in those clips, and he's just, he's kind of all over Dru, and goading Angelus, and, you know, all that--he's just, he's kind of a young, rowdy guy. And the interesting thing now is after he has his fun, he kind of has this revelation that life is not going to be perfect, because Angelus kind of takes Dru, and then therein starts the next conflict for a hundred years between those two characters.

Well, then we zoom into season 2, and that's when Spike is introduced, and they have their hug moment, and their punch, and he gets into the wheelchair, and there's Dru, and Spike meets Buffy, and then, it's kind of, you know, that whole introduction sequence. It's very linear, so this is the kind of vid I'd recommend to who really doesn't know the series, because this is a great way to at least introduce yourself to Spike.

Then Spike takes Dru, he drives off, he comes back, he gets hit with the Initiative, and that's where these clips come in where he's got the chip in his head and he's kind of in his own little prison, and he's trying to adjust, and you can kind of see at this point in the series he's evolving from, you know, blatant bad boy guy of evil vampireness to, you know, a fairly good guy--although, of course, he still has his moments, and um, it really hits around the Randy Giles moments, he falls asleep, he chokes on a cigarette, he has all these stuff going on, and there's kind of a turn, especially around Dawn, where he's trying to do the right thing, and he changes, and that's really where the complex Spike comes in, because he's still a bad guy, but he's not a BAD bad guy, and--oh, and the lyrics, I really like the lyrics in this too, because when "he's looking for a queen," he's looking for Buffy, I thought that was really cool.

And then, you know, he has the soul, and he runs into the other slayers, and the slayers--at least the slayerettes, they don't seem to take him very seriously. He kind of--he's seems kinda like a frustrated character in this too, but at the same time, it's kind of a growth thing. Like Spike, he started off reserved, and then he went bad boy, and then he turned into soul guy, and then he kinda turned back into William, with the fiery hand and the soul-having and the, you know, "I think I finally completed myself"-ness and all that.

Yeah, that's pretty much it. I really love how she reverses back after she gets to that soul moment, right all the way back to William sitting in the chair, I mean, it's just a really good vid, so thank you for listening to me babble. Bye.

Footnote: If I got too clip-by-clip on this, I apologize--it's a linear vid, and it tells a story, so all the clips (in my mind) seem to be chosen for that purpose. :)
