This is a wonderful commentary that makes a very interesting vid even more so. Thank you so much for writing it. I especially like how you pointed out the auction song/idea bringing the vidders out of their comfort zone in that sense. I've seen that happen time and again with all types of vidders, and it's always eye-opening - as you said - to see the results.

It leads to things like this:

they broke one of the "cardinal rules" of vidding, which is, don't reuse clips within a vid. They'd actually done it several times before in the vid, but they were just flashes, so I hadn't thought too much of it. But it happens here more obviously, and I love that they went ahead and said fuck it and broke that rule repeatedly and with intent, because it fits.

That kind of thing really inspires me as a vidder and makes me want to break out of *my* comfort zone and challenge myself in new ways.

Thank you so much for reading it! :D This is a vid that I liked very much on first watching, but that became a favorite after I really got into noticing the details.

Killa,

Thank you for taking the time to disect this vid, which, even now, gives me chills down my spine and makes me gasp when I see it.

I was a little sad when after the last Vividcon, I saw almost nobody mention this vid.

I know I was asking the Clucking Belles to step out of their box with this song choice. I more or less said I wanted a video about Derek and the 3 women in his life and about the sheer chaos of being Derek Reese, and that yeah, they could use that shot if they needed to ( ... )

You are so right, about this vid being a Faberge egg! The more time I spent with it, the more I appreciated and loved it. (I didn't see it at VividCon last year -- had to leave early.) It's a fantastic song choice, it really is. And I love seeing how they made their vidding style expand to fit the song. It doesn't hurt that I adore Derek more than cake, but it's also such an amazing teaching vid -- I feel like I learned a ton studying it.

*hugs*

It's definitely an amazing teaching vid, as you say in comments. Thanks for guiding us through it, because I would never have picked up so much on my own.
