Meta series: On External Source

Nov 22, 2010 19:12

This is hopefully the first of a series of vidding meta posts by different members of the community. Thanks to deathisyourart for organising the series, and for beta-reading this piece.

On external sourceI've been asked to write something about external source. In truth, my thought processes usually start and end at "Whee! Pretty!" and not much besides, but I ( Read more... )

This is a subject that I've been recently searching for more info on, the more I notice it. I decided to take the plunge and really utilize some external source footage in my latest vid, and I have to say....I really wasn't prepared for the impact when I rendered and alpha-viewed it.
I think probably the most salient info was point 2.1 (External Outside canon), as anyone can tell you I am most definitely a slash vidder.
However, I was sucked into the methodology of pretty much the entirety of point 4. :)
And as always, I have nothing but hearty agreement for you on the subject of quality betas. It really isnt ever optimal to release a work without at least a second pair of (trusted and HONEST) eyes.

Thanks for taking the time to write this up and share your thoughts on such fascinating meta. :D

LOL, I think that statement applies to every vid I ever rendered and watched the first time. It's always just such a let-down, that first time. Thankfully it tends to get better from there.

I digress, however. Thank you for reading and commenting, and I'm glad that you found it, especially the methodology of it, helpful. :)

Wow. What an incredible (and for me, timely) post.

I am embarking on my first vid using external source footage and am now gaining an appreciation for how tricky it is to use. Well, to use effectively and, as you say - not letting it choke the vid to death. I am attempting to use it as a back drop to the SPN universe - but also has a statement about that 'verse.

Eeek... I'm taking notes. :)

Thank you for an amazing post.
