This is so amazing! Thank you both (all three, I guess, including Xandra) for all the work you put into it. There's so much to absorb I know I'll be rereading this a lot.

(Do you want unsolicited advice about CS3 and Avisynth? I will not harass you if you'd rather research on your own.)

I did doubt if anybody would reach the end of this, while writing it - It just gained more and more words. So the last week before the deadline was dedicated to not let it expand further and cutting it down again.

And yes, I would love some advice - not sure, when I will work it into a vid, but yes. Pretty please.

Whoops, another thing, from reading the comments on Gianduja Kiss's entry: More sequences open at the same time caused more crashing. I ended up using folders full of scrap clips instead of scrap sequences until I upgraded.

The idea is cool, right? And the results would be amazing in how different they would end up being. So if you want to join into the fun, the more the merrier, we just need to get decided on the fandom and song. I would say probably best if we get started after festivids madness ends.

This is a practice in patience. I don't want to waste a superb song on something less than ideal just because I'm desperate to vid it. I wanna do right by a song I love, and do it justice.

I feel exactly the same way. My big one is The Kill, by Dresden Dolls. I have literally wanted to vid that song for years and either haven't come across the right source, or haven't fully connected the dots. I have some thoughts... but never fully realized, and nothing feels quite "right." (Gotta work on that.)

I have the same sort of "oh crap" moment after vidding regarding Things I Should Have Fixed but mine usually comes much sooner! However, I completely agree with you on this:

...every flaw they possess is balanced by something I learned for life as a vidder. So I don't feel like I need to hide them in the basement and forget about them. They are part of my history as vidder.

That perfectly sums up how I feel about that.

I love the idea of collaborating with another vidder I just never understood how it was done.

Drive myself crazy ( ... )

It's kind of funny that once you connected the dots, it often seems so obvious in retrospect that the song is all about that arc or this character. But I enjoy the thought process before, the playing around with ideas, while listening to favorite songs on repeat and like you said, there are some vague ideas till something suddenly switches and it's on.

You should try out a collaboration with a vidder you trust - there are so many ways to make it work and it feels really different then vidding alone. It's surprising and fun and very dynamic. I was skeptical, if Xandra and I could pull it off the first time around, because we come to vidding from two opposite directions. She is so aware of canon plots and I'm all about the pretty. So trusting each other while knowing our differences and giving each other room still makes out collaborations a special experience. Multifandom also help, more possibilities.

Glad you enjoyed the read, I was equally immersed in your interview, so fascinating.

It always works that way though, doesn't it? I guess it's true what they say about hindsight (or we really are just that blind, haha.)

I will definitely keep the idea of a collab in mind. It's something I've always wanted to do and I'm sure it would be an interesting process.
