I remember Reader's Digest doing some sort of wallet losing study in a few cities in Canada, in the 1990's. I think they'd lose 20 wallets with a 20$ bill and a return address in a bunch of different cities and see how many of them would be returned with the money, without the money, and not returned at all.
Moncton had 20/20 with money left intact.
