How to achieve collapsing overlays in Vegas Movie Studio 11

I've been wondering for a long while how to achieve the sort of "collapsing, animated overlay with borders" that is seen throughout this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EW36s-7LtTMRead more... )

I'm not POSITIVE, but I'm guessing you could accomplish this with the cookie cutter effect and clicking on "animation" so the last frame has the size set to zero (you'd have to find a way to repeat the y axis -- without it becoming separate blocks -- so the overlay would only collapse in one way). I'm sure someone knows a better way of accomplishing this effect, though.
