Codecs for Vidding NTSC DVD Source in Final Cut

Hi all,

I vid with Final Cut Pro, and most of my vidding thus far has been with NTSC DVDs, which I rip to my computer and then use MPEG Streamclip to convert clips to mov. I use the Apple DV/DVCPRO NTSC codec for my clips, but I'm starting to wonder if there's something else that would work better. In particular, I've had some issues with non-square ( Read more... )

I'm using the Ut Video codec, which is lossless. I don't know how it would work with MPEG Streamclip since my process is different (and I'm on Windows, though it looks like Ut Video is supported for Mac systems).

Sorry, I can't help, but remember DVD sources are not a true 16:9 ratio, they're anamorphic, they have the stretched pixels, so therefore won't have a square pixel if you stick to the screen size.

Yes, exactly. My hope is that converting with a codec that uses square pixels will transform the clips into a true 16:9 ratio with square pixels. It seems like Streamclip can do it! Thanks.
