The whole idea is jinxed. Come on, no one 'falls' in love just like that... no one fell in love with their parents the first time they saw them - love, affection, care etc etc are things that come with time and proximity... While 'falling in love' is probably just an overrated term/statement for 'liking what you're seeing' as you very well put it 'people love the idea of being in love rather that being in love itself'
Well, while I do think you do develop love, affection and stuff for people such as your parents, brothers etc. Thats because they do so much for you without expecting anything in return.
The other love, between people like austin and vidya, atleast when you are younger and not mature enough, is sparked by hype, which causes people to think that there is something to it. They then try to experiment with it, without really learning the subject or the essence of it. things such as peer pressure fuel this ofcourse!
