“The Boys of Summer”

A/N: So, over the summer, kalliel and I were going to write fic/make a vid based on the song “Beat the Devil’s Tattoo” by BRMC. We agreed that it should include Dean/Alastair and our favorite girls, Meg and Ruby. Somehow, my fic turned into… this. Title from the song by Don Henley. HOSHIT. This makes me ache for both of them; Sam most, somehow. Might have something to do with this:
In a different life, he was a boy who would’ve crouched down next to this empty shell and been its sole attendant mourner. He would’ve buried it, and maybe said some appropriately empty words, to match.

I completely agree! I have always been a Dean-girl, through and through, but the writing of this fic just made me go, SAMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY. I am so, so intrigued by that summer between Dean's death and his resurrection, and about all that we don't know about it. How it changed both of them, irrevocably. Unf.

My favorite:

Damnation: yes. Death: probably. A record: why not. Crossing the line: too late.

It just has that hard-edge, no fucking around, 'tough shit, deal' sentiment to it that I adore and sometimes miss about Dean. <3

Annnnd of course the note Sam treasures, and Dean's waking up in layers. I'm pretty sure I commented on that line when I first read this, but I figure it bears repeating!

(Also, I will do this vid! I will! PROMISE.)

¡Muchísimas gracias, mi amor! I so, so agree with you about Dean. I want that back- you're right; there was a certain aura around him of balancing on the edges of knives. It was what it was, and it sucked, but he expected it. (Hell, sometimes I think he welcomed it.)
