As always, another random rant from me. It seems like I sit and random annoyances simply pop in my head, and I feel compelled to share them with you all. Don't you all feel special??
I was reading
Wally World Life, the link was posted on a gaming board I read. It's quite a funny site actually recording the many adventures of a guys employment at Wal-Mart. I came across an entry from this past fall and it sparked a rant in me. The rant was concerning people who get WIC (a US government aid program which gives Women, Infants & Children (pregnant women and their children 5 and under) free formula/milk/food goods) but bitch about what they are getting. I have to say I wholeheartedly agree with the guy. It's FREE, shut up and be grateful!!
I'm pretty familiar with the WIC program. My sister in law used it when she was pregnant with neice and I occasionally had to pick up things for her with the vouchers. My MIL also had the brilliant idea that I should try and apply for it, since I was born in the US and so was hubby, making daughter eligable for US citizenship and went so far to say if she had the money, she'd have paid to have daughter born there so we'd be eligible (I wasn't over-keen on cheating the US government, regardless of how messed up it may or may not be depending on your political views).
One day sis in law was required to go grocery shopping for the now MIL (I was dating hubby at the time). They said that they needed to go to a larger town's IGA that was about 30 or so minutes away. This kinda baffled and annoyed me. It baffled me because there is an IGA in the town where they live, why not go there? It annoyed me cause it was MY gas that was funding this little excursion to the larger town 30 mins away (I already drove there daily through the week for university, the novelty had long worn off). So I asked MIL why not just go to the IGA near the house, they all basically stock the same stuff. With WIC, it's very basic groceries they supply (milk, eggs, cheese, juice, etc) I was condescendingly informed that they no longer shopped at that IGA because they wouldn't "let" them get a certain brand of milk on their WIC, but the other one (who happened to be managed by MIL's nephew) would.
Umm, hello? IT'S FREE MILK!!!!! Milk is milk is milk, who really cares what brand it is. A 1 yr old doesn't really care what brand of milk she's drinking (she wouldn't drink milk anyway...) Just because your cigarette charred tastebuds think there is a difference, doesn't mean that the whole of the WIC program should be altered. They would prefer to drive 30+ minutes (burning more in gas than the free milk was worth) to get a certain brand of milk. *eyes roll*
