I expect more of the "consumer" mindset at raves/parties than I do at festivals, so it bothers me a little less.

It was as if there were two separate festivals going on at the same time: one for the people actually wanting peace and wanting to make things better for the next generation and wanting to grow closer as a people. And one for people just looking for yet another rave or party who didn't care what kind of footprint or trash they left behind.

This is how I felt at Burning Man as it got closer to the weekend...

Sadly true, and it gets a little worse each year as Burning Man becomes more and more "mainstream" and more of the longterm Burners move on. Most of the moop at BM was in the form of beer bottles/cans and it was really getting to me.

I saw less moop this year than last, but I stayed away from the big dance places at the far edges this year too.

Anyhow, you have two choices: Abandon these things to the posers, or continue to set a good example. I can't imagine that most posers can do these things for too long without beginning to act like us at the very least so they will seem 'cool'.

I wasn't cleaning up moop after other people too much at BM this year the way I have in past years, partly due to how cynical I was feeling about much of humanity, and partly since beer bottles/cans don't fit very well into my Camelbak. I still don't feel too good about the example I set that way...

At least at Earthdance there were quite a few of us who were cleaning up other people's moop. On Sunday we ran into a group of young women who were walking along and singing while picking up moop. That seems to be a great way of having contagious, positive energy.
