I just turned down a shift from someone at work.  Granted, I had no way of getting out there, but I was asked, and Mike volunteered his child (Rowen) to take me.  I really wouldn't ask her to do that normally, but the guy seemed really, really desperate.  I could've offered to call him back after I'd talked to her, but that would have been really ( Read more... )

Sorry about the dropping off there at the end of our conversation. I guess I'm still dealing with that "not-crazy-about-talking-on-the-phone" thing which, needless to day, makes communicating with long distance friends difficult. Also, hair insiting on climbing into your ear sucks rivets.

Aw, it doesn't sound like you need to feel guilty. Nothing obligates you to take shifts that you aren't scheduled for. But, I totally understand. I've worked every extra shift that my boss has ever offered me because I like her and I feel guilty saying no because it means that my co-workers who I also like will be short staffed. It took me a long time to learn to say no because my time off is realyl, really important to my pyschological well being. However, the guilt still remains, although it shouldn't.
