A New Job (Kinda) and a Rare but Pleasant Occurence!

Feb 03, 2010 02:19

It's been awhile since I actually posted anything resembling a journal entry about the day-to-day goings-on of my life...so I thought I'd just start now, and hopefully make it a more regular thing ( Read more... )

Hey, good on you! I really hope that turns into a full-time paid position for you and I shall be praying for that to happen! Hee, and don't worry about being a bit anxious for your other dvd to come in. I get the same way! That WWII movie does sound quite interesting, and like you, I love it when the Germans actually speak German!

Thanks very much! Had my second day today, and am having fun getting to know the patients - some of 'em are real sweethearts!

Heh - glad I'm not the only one who gets kinda stir crazy waiting for their next movie! And yay for authentic Germans!

Combat! is great!:)

I'm also a HUGE fan of the 1960s tv show The Rat Patrol, which, while slightly inaccurate (the desert rats were British, not a mix of Americans and British as in the show),is still amazing. All the Germans actually speak unsubtitled German, too.:D

I LOVE "The Rat Patrol"! My dad had gotten that on dvd several years ago and when I watched it, I fell in love with it (I love the North African theatre and it's hard finding good movies about it!). My favourite character is Hauptmann Dietrich. :D I love the fact that a lot of the German is unsubtitled, which makes this German-language student have some fun. :D

Awesome! I started watching it last year,I love it.:D

I really like how Dietrich isn't just a one-dimention enemy but rather a really complex character.
My favorite is Hitch.:D

I know like 3 words of German so my grandmother translates most of it for me.:P Thats how I get her to watch it,since she doesn't like the show.:P

I hope the job works out for you and that's great that you are volunteering (I am actually in the same predicament as you right now. Horrible economy).

And I have "The Colditz Story" in my Netflix Queue. I think it's the one coming up next actually, I also started watching a lot of POW movies because of Hogan's Heroes, so I guess we are both crazy. lol. And in this case I am also a fan of John Mills. :)

Ha ha - sounds like we are both having some tough times right now...the unemployment rate in CA is just so bad. My family's moving to Texas this summer, since it's much cheaper to live there regardless of the national economic situation.

Hope you enjoy "Colditz Story"...for me, it was kind of slow moving. But there are some really definitely highlights! And yay for John Mills. I had actually never seen any of his movies until last week when I caught "Great Expectations" from 1946. Have you seen it? I enjoyed it very much, and was impressed with Mills in "Colidtz", as well. :)

Oh my goodness I ADORE Great Expectations! I had no idea anyone else had ever watched that version..everyone I've mentioned it to only knows the more recent version.

Yeah! I was lucky enough to catch it on Turner Classic Movies a week or so ago...they were doing a tribute to Jean Simmons (who recently died), and that was really her breakout role as Young Estella. I thought they did a really great version of it, even if the ending bore little resemblance to the original book (not the one Dickens later changed it to)! I really enjoyed the movie - how perfect was Alec Guiness as Herbert? :D

Thanks very much! :D

Is the book you read the one written by Reid? He's the main character in the movie (and the only one whose name wasn't changed in the script), and his account sounded interesting...

I truly don't have any idea who wrote it. I was about 7 or 8 when I read it but the title and basic story stayed with me. I really should look for it and read it again.

Man, I love stories like that. It's always great when something makes that much of an impression on you when you're young...stays with you your whole life.
