I just cleared another foot of snow off our driveway, and I'm daydreaming about tropical beaches and crystal-blue grottos. Grottos have fish. Fish have fins. And there's your hundred words for the week!

I can't believe he paid me! The rumors about how tough he is are seriously exaggerated. Now that I've transferred the money out of the holding account into my personal one, it is impossible to trace back to me. There is no way he'll ever go to the cops. He'd be ruined, both personally and professionally.

A celebration is in order. A good meal at a fancy restaurant is just what I need and deserve. And some expensive champagne!

Whew! This stuff sure packs a wallop. I don't think I've ever gotten this drunk from just one glass of anything.

I sit quietly listening through the wall to a rapid conversation I can never join, ignoring the inane one swirling around me. My friends are oblivious, used as they are to being excluded.

I marvel at how laughter even sounds different, lilting in a way that ours does not, and wonder about the use of nuance and what memories are conjured when they speak.

This precious jewel that was brought from the old country is so valuable to them that they have chosen not to share it with their children, hoarding it to themselves. Their children don’t seem to care.
