Very ambitious list you have there, although, the Dune series doesn't really get worse as you go along. The fourth book, God Emperor of Dune is pretty much the best book in that series. As for the rest...o_O I reserve the right to actually process that list some other time in the future, because really....>.>

hmm.. I guess it depends on who you talk to. Chris likes most the rest, but says the non Frank Herbert aren't the same. good in a lightly fluffy sci fi kinda way, not intellectual like the old ones.. I've had other people tell me to just read Dune, and stop there.. but I figure I should see for myself.

ah, see, I was only talking about the Frank Herbert Dune books. Those are really the only Dune books in my opinion. The others, are more like prequels and don't really offer anything other than historical background to the Dune universe.

But yeah, it's different for each person. Happy reading. :D

Man, I hated those books. TO me they are all cheesy rip-offs of Tolkein and Piers Anthony: they felt like a bad 1st edition AD&D campaign.

On the other hand, I have fallen in love again with Glen Cook. Both his Garrett, P.I. and his Black Company novels are crunchy goodness.

yeah. i had read up through the Scions or somesuch as a kid.. I tried re-reading Sword of Shanarra recently-ish.. and my first thoughts were "man, you can tell this is his first book, and wow.. Hi LoTR, nice to see you again!" but i do seem to remember them getting better. and the most recent ones are supposed to be really good.. so we'll see.
