I just added this to a live journal cooking community so might as well do it here too :)
Russian Salad (I am Russian so this is the real real thing)
Ingredients:
three medium sized potatoes
four eggs
3 cups of sour pickles
one package of ham/about two cups
one small can of peas
small jar of mayonnaise
Put eggs and potatoes in a pot and boil.
While the eggs and potatoes are heating up, chop up your ham, pickles, and add peas.
When the potatoes and eggs are ready (just poke them with a fork and if they're soft, they're ready) chop those up and add them to your mix.
Let the salad cool before adding the jar of mayo.
***** If you're only cooking for yourself or if there's a chance some salad would be left over, don't add mayo to the whole thing. Just add it in each serving. It will stay fresher!
Spanish Chorizo Pasta
I live in Spain so Chorizo is in abundance. In the states, i've seen it sold alongside the beef jerky. It's usually sold two to a package!
Here we go..
Ingredients:
Two cups (about the size of two sausages)
clove of garlic
one red onion (or any large sized onion you prefer)
cup of heavy cream
Pasta (I served mine with tri-color but it's usually served with spaghetti)
Boil your pasta, add extra salt in the water since you won't be adding anymore salt in this dish. Chop up the garlic, chorizo, and onion.
Brown in skillet. When onion is clear, add your heavy cream and turn down the heat. Add pepper to taste.
Let this cook for 5 min. on low heat...
Drain pasta. Mix and enjoy.
***** Occasionally I cook this same dish without the heavy cream. It's just as tasty. You can also substitute the chorizo for bacon bits!*****
