Things That Go Bump In The Night

As Halloween is swiftly approaching (and I even saw Christmas trees set up in a local craft store), I have a mind to draw some bogies and boggarts. What are they, you ask? Well, bogies and boggarts are fairy-like creatures that are used by parents to scare children, like the ghoul that lived under your bed as a kid. So, anyway, I'm at a lost for ( Read more... )

I don't know much about bogies and boggarts (outside of some politicians), but what really scares me is the idea of Christmas displays put on in late September. Gah!

Yeah, I can't believe Hobby Lobby already has Christmas trees set up, and it's only the first of October. (I saw them up about two weeks ago, which is even worse!) I thought it was bad when I worked at the mall and the maintenance guys were putting up Christmas decorations during Halloween night, as the stores were closing up.

It should be illegal. In fact, the exposure of any Christmas displays or decorations should be a death penalty offense before Thanksgiving! American Thanksgiving, too, not some September Thanksgiving in Outer Mongolia!

True, because I believe the Canadian Thanksgiving is this month. My mother is also an instigator of early Christmas. When the talk is dying down on Thanksgiving because everyone is so full and tired, she'll turn on Christmas music or a Christmas movie. I guess it's not that early, but it's a horrible reminder to everyone in the family who has to work on Black Friday.

Dude. I always found the Cheshire Cat in 'Alice' to be wonderfully creepy and charming at the same time. :Db

Otherwise... ehehe. Rabid!Dobby? XD

OOH. You have a scary Chesire Cat icon. I forget who makes that comic, but it's a scary and fun comic.

I like the Chesire Cat, too, but I want to make it original, not just copy him. Could you give me an idea to change him up?

Dooby from the movie or Dobby from the book? he looks more feminine in the American book version, which has illustrations at the beginning of each chapter.

It's not from a comic! XD It's from a video game. "American McGee's Alice". I think the movie was supposed to come out this year, but they've pushed it to '08 instead. (I mean, assuming that there is a movie. I don't know how much I can trust imdb.) And... I dunno, a mix between the Cheshire Cat and Puss-in-Boots? I mean, since it's for kids after all-- the hat and boots can make him look a little more goofy.

I don't remember what Dobby from the book looks like. D: Or the difference between him in the British/American versions. I was thinking of the movie one, since he looks like such a little prune. XD

Oh, it is a video game? Sorry. I knew it was American McGee's though, even when I can't remember the name. It looks like a game I would play, despite it being horrible to my beloved Wonderland books.

Hmmm. I really should have phrased my post better. I'm not drawing anything for kids. It's for myself. I was just in the mood to get started on Halloween style drawings. I just meant that bogies and boggarts are originally monsters meant to frighten kids. Like....Jenny Greenteeth, who was a freshwater evil mermaid thing that would drown children if they got too close to the water.

I've never seen the British edition of the HP books, but I know they have a different artist. What I have seen of the covers makes me believe that the American artist is far superior.
