I am sitting here on a cold grey day with the heater on, sad that we've missed out on yet another summer. Mind you, all the things I wanted to do during it were cancelled

Regarding sitcoms, my all-time favourite might be The Likely Lads / Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads. Of other classic sitcoms, I liked the obvious choices, Porridge and Only Fools and Horses. I'm not sure if it really counts as a sitcom, but M*A*S*H was brilliant and - unusually - the longer it went on the better it seemed to get. The IT Crowd was very funny, and more recently I've enjoyed the surreal and off-the-wall Toast. I've never seen The Detectorists, and perhaps I should rectify that.
It's been a rubbish summer. I do get SAD but take Vitamin D3 for it.
I can never think of these things when I have to answer questions like this! Porridge was superb, I did like M*A*S*H many years ago, and the IT Crowd I even wrote fanfic for. All that came to mind was more recent ones.
I've never heard of Toast. It's not on Netflix; I'll have to look for it. Is it the Danish one, or Toast of London?
Oh, I just thought of Derry Girls which was excellent! And of course the wonderful deadpan Wellington Paranormal which has a final season coming, but I don't think of either of those as sitcoms.
Sadly, I'm of an age where I find it easier to remember ancient shows than more recent ones.
It's Toast of London. Three series were made for the UK's Channel 4, of which I think I only caught the third. And there's just been a fourth series, Toast of Tinseltown, for which the show moved to the BBC, in which our hero gets a part in a film and goes to Hollywood.
I've not seen either of the two shows you mention. I don't watch much TV these days, and most of what I do watch are documentaries. Another one I've not seen is Flight of the Conchords, which I believe comes from New Zealand and which is supposed to be very good.
Flight of the Conchords is fun (two musicians in the US), but again I don't think of it as a sitcom. I will have to see if Toast is on one of the other streaming services we have. I'm looking for a good comedy.
I rarely find the more modern sitcoms funny. My favourite will always be Are you being Served. I agree on MacGyver! It's like when I got asked who would I most like to be stranded on a Desert Island with. My answer was, Ray Mears! Not for any romantic reason of course - just with his survival skills being stranded would not be so uncomfortable.
I think with sitcoms we are supposed to feel that we are either the people in them or know them or want to be like them but I never feel that. I do think that about Lance and Andy, they could be friends I've known for over 30 years who I would send birthday cards to or help them move
Yes! There's a future question about living in one and I'd pick there because it seems a nice friendly place and I'd enjoy detecting (not something you can do here due to only recent metallic history).

I'm hopeless at picking favourites and usually just don't answer those questions because I always second-guess myself and remember more contenders.

Ah yes of course, that had never occurred to me but it makes sense that would be the case there.
