Well, I finally took up The Fountainhead. I'm only to chapter 7, but already it's twice the book Atlas Shrugged was.

You know, I agree - that's exactly why I prefer the Fountainhead over AS. And, I might add, it gets better.

And I tend to skip the 20 or so pages in AS of "If you didn't get it by now, here it is in great detail" speech by Roark late in the book.

Also look at "We the Living" when you can - great book, and much more "raw" since it's earlier.

My only exposure to "Atlas Shrugged" is the "Telemachus Sneezed" parody found in Shea and Wilson's "Illuminatus!" - even allowing for parody, it didn't sound particularly interesting.

On the other hand, it's probably wise to consider that to rely on anything said or implied in "Illumiatus!" is to somewhat miss the point.
