For the last couple of days I've been feeling more bloated again.  I've sort of been in denial of it, because I was flying high on the regular improvements I was feeling up to that point.  Last night, during our "spa" night, it all came to a head with me.  I started noticing a throbbing part of my chest that seemed to be beating with my heart beat ( Read more... )

The "You ain't in control" is the hardest part, I think. We do so much to control it. We eat right. We quit smoking. We stay off the hard drugs. We reach out to friends. But there it is. We are not in control.

I'm less and less convinced that we're in control of ANYTHING, except, perhaps, what we are doing in the present moment. If the first step is birth (or conception) and the twelth is death, the ten in between are just steps. No more than that. We take steps in whatever direction we choose and then stuff happens around us. We react to that stuff by taking another step. All we choose is the steps - how wide and in what direction.

Sorry you're not feeling as well as you've been. It's hard when a good body goes bad.

Thanks for that song Scott. Wow.
And I'm sorry to hear that you aren't feeling as well as you were. You are spot on about not being in control. This whole body/life/death thing is really a touchy one to actually wrap a brain around and understand, but the "not in control" bit seems to be the bottom line.

That is an excellent blues song, and I'd like to hear it set to music.

Oh Death..."No wealth, no ruin, no silver no gold/Nothing satisfies me but your soul"....

We'll be with you--some of us in person, like your lovely wife, some of us in spirit, like me--until the very last minute when you make the leap, Scott.

"Death don't care," but we, your friends and family, care.
