Oh god, I hope your friend is safe and well - is it anyone I know?
I remember the feeling in the office on 9/11 - one of the consultants best friend lived and worked near the WTC and even though Amanda was one of the strongest women I have ever met, no one worked that day ... I jumped on every phone call hoping it was her friend from NY - and at the end of the day one call was!
I think the boss just shut up shop and took us out for drinks after that :)
Hopefully you will get word soon ... I only know one person over there and stair posted fairly quickly that he was ok :)
Makes me want to take back my unkind words over yesterdays 2012 win ... talk about London running the gamut of emotions right now :(
I don't think you've met her, although last time she was in the country we got smashed at the Duke! She's a girl I went to boarding school with, we were joined at the hip for all of high school (night and day), hence the feeling like she's my sister!
Makes me appreciate people around me all over again. Love you! Walk safely m'dear xx
I'm online with my friends in london. The police have turned off the mobile networks for anything other than emergency services, so that's likely why you can't get through.
Ta J. Got a message from her this morning... she and her boyfriend usually get the train to Aldgate Station round 9 ish but decided to stay in bed for some nookie and go to work later!! Thank god for nookie is all I can say!!
Thanks all for your thoughts! As said to cut_paste, she was basically saved by a last minute decision to go to work late and to stay in bed and fool around with her boy! They would normally have been on a train near Aldgate Station ... who knows huh? Shagadelic.
Now to take the hippy mantle from our northern Duckman, never has there been such an instant story of love conquering hate......or at least such an immediate indicator of the value of skiving off work for some nookie!
I have heard back from most of my friends over in London and all is OK. Scary stuff though! I used to pass through Kings Cross and Liverpool St stations everyday at around that time. Good thing most of my friends over there have the luxury of starting work late, no peak hour travel for them! And I really can imagine that everyone would have just sat things out at the 'local' over a pint of Stella and a yorksire pudding!!!
I don't like the prospect of changing trains at Central every morning, or crossing the Bridge every day........but as Aus isn't one of the big-8 maybe we'll be ok. Johnny probably doesn't hold that much sway outside our immediate vicinity.
