How The Trees Got Their Song

There once was a great forest that covered 1,000 acres. They were a very sad bunch with no voices so they stayed together to keep each other company. They wilted and pouted over their lack of sound.

Then one day, as the God and Goddess were looking down on their beautiful earth, they saw how sad their precious trees were. They said “Beautiful trees, why are you so sad? We have given you beauty and a purpose. What is bothering you?”

Being as they were, they understood at once what it was. The trees wanted a voice, but not just any voice, they wanted to sing like the humans could. Of course the God and Goddess knew that this wasn’t possible unless they wanted to change them completely. Instead he gave them a different type of voice to use and gave them a song to sing. The God and Goddess said to them, “this gift we bestow upon you is very precious. There is only one rule that we must give you before you may sing. You may only sing when the wind blows through your leaves. So long as you follow this rule, you may keep your song.” The trees nodded graciously to thank them. As soon as they received their voice, the wind blew gently through their leaves. They were so exited that they could now sing and immediately began. Their voice was so beautiful that the humans stopped to listen. With every note, the humans became more enraptured by the song. This song was in thanks to the God and Goddess for such a wonderful gift.

When the wind stopped, the song ended. Now that they had heard their new voice, they were never willing to give it up and so obediently followed the new rule. From then on they taught their seedlings the only rule that they had to obey so that their wonderful song could always be sung. They have never forgotten the rule and so have always been able to enjoy their gracious gift. If you listen closely you can still here the joy in their voices as they sing for the entire world to hear when the wind blows.

A/N: This was written by me 4 years ago and I just found it again. It kinda sucks but I figured it was good enough to at least post here. Comments are always welcome!
